10 Amazing Romantic Comedy Films
Here's my review of romantic comedies, which I adore. These movies are funny, warm, sweet, romantic and sometimes tough. Especially, when the major character gets softened by love or falling in love. This is true in life too, but not so dramatically. We all change when we fall in love or connect with our soul mate. There are thousands of compatible mates for everyone, but I think you have to meet that person at the right time and right place for the connection to work. When we fall in love, why is it we sacrifice certain privileges in our life? I think, because when you meet a special someone, you don't want to lose them. So, you will make changes to see them more often, plan your day around them, and change your activities to mesh with theirs. And the bond that has been created between two people grows stronger every day. It is because of your love for another person that you enjoy thoroughly the relationship with them, all the time. That is what keeps a relationship going.
My top ten films for the romantic at heart
So, here's my top ten romantic comedies, with 1 being the favorite and 10 the least favorite.
- Leap Year. The best feature about this film is the hilarious banter between the main characters Anna (Amy Adams) and Declan (Matthew Goode) and how they finally realize they love each other after a series of crazy and unpredictable events, while Anna is in Ireland to propose to her long time boyfriend.
- 27 Dresses. I love Katherine Heigl as Jane, the helpful friend who always end ups a bridesmaid, but never a bride. 27 times. Then she meets Kevin (James Marsden) who challenges her way of thinking and life.
- Bridesmaids. I recently saw this movie a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. Kristen Wiig stars as Annie who finds out her best friend is getting married. Annie ends up coordinating the maid of honor duties, but fails miserably. One of my favorite characters in the movie is Megan, played by Melissa McCarthy (who is the star of Mike & Molly). Megan is the antithesis of Annie, but near the end, they become good friends.
- My Big Fat Greek Wedding. This smash hit stars Nia Vardalos as Toula, a greek waitress at her family's restaurant, and John Corbett as Ian, a handsome professor who falls in love with Toula. The couple causes an uproar with Toula's family when they announce their intentions to marry.
- My Best Friend's Wedding. Cameron Diaz is wonderful in this comedy as the new love interest of Julianne's (Julia Roberts) best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney). Julianne becomes jealous as she realizes Michael doesn't hold her in the highest esteem.
- The 40 Year Old Virgin. Steve Carell really nailed this part as the naive, sweet, and caring protagonist, Andy, who finally finds love with Trish (Catherine Keener) and consummates their love on their wedding night after 40 years as a virgin.
- Never Been Kissed. I love Josie (Drew Barrymore) as the geeky, intelligent and socially inept copy editor for a newspaper, who gets her first journalism job to go undercover at the local high school. She falls in love with the English teacher and soon realizes it's more than she can handle as she recalls her own unhappy high school memories.
- The Truth About Cats & Dogs. A very funny movie about a self conscious veterinarian, Abby (Janeane Garofalo), who falls in love with a cute English guy, Brian (Ben Chaplin). Abby's neighbor, Noelle (Uma Thurman), is a model who doubles for Abby, because she is too awkward about her appearance to me her love interest, Brian.
- How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. This hilarious movie centers around Andie (Kate Hudson) and Ben (Matthew McConaughey). Andie is writing an article on, "How to lose a guy in 10 days", and Ben is trying to win a bet on how to make a woman fall in love in 10 days. Craziness and tension ensues as they battle it out.
- 50 First Dates. A woman, Lucy (Drew Barrymore), has a unique form of memory loss, but is drawn to Henry (Adam Sandler). Henry, a veterinarian, doesn't want a long term relationship, but meets Lucy and falls in love with her, although she doesn't remember him. He comes up with a special way to deal with her memory loss and make their relationship work.

wonderful
"50 First Dates" is our favorite, and we do love its setting in Hawaii. Thank you for your list. Time to dig through the collection. Voted up!
Thank you for this :)
Out of that list, "Never Been Kissed and "My Best Friend's Wedding" are my faves. "Never Been Kissed" has a good message about love: be yourself, and you will attract the right person for you. And "My Best Friend's Wedding" is a movie that I think many people can relate to. Falling for your best friend is so easy to do, and often we don't recognize our feelings until it's too late and they are marrying someone else!
That is a great list. Some I totally agree with and some well........Great article.
Great list! I created a similar list and some of your picks are on my list as well. Love How to Lose a Guy in 10 days! Voted up!
I adore going to the movies. I've seen most of these and enjoyed them. Your selection is neat. Thank you
Good list. I've seen most of these but not Leap Year or 27 Dresses so I'll have to check them out.
Haven't seen all of these but the ones I have seen are terrific. I love romantic comedies--especially the old ones like Pillow Talk with Doris Day. Great list.
Arusho, This is a tricky list to try to compile, thanks for sharing just a few with us....Cred2
Hi arusho
Great list of romantic comedies. I have seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The 40 Year Old Virgin and 50 First Dates.
I've seen all of these except 1, 8, and 10 but I agree these are great movies! Bridesmaids is awesome but I sorta hope they don't a sequel, it'll ruin it just like they did the Hangover.
my favorites are BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING SO FUNNY AND next is MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING. so good. love your hub.. thanks for sharing
Debbie
I quote from My Big Fat Greek Wedding all the time. "He don't eat meat", I can't help thinking everytime someone announces they are a vegan! LOL
